Moderator: Barbara Fairfield is an Adlerian therapist with more than 20 years experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups.

Are you exhausted by the mere thought of involving the whole family in chores? Does it seem like you have to think up a new, more clever "positive" system every week just to get the kitchen cleaned and the garbage taken out? In this session you will observe as a family tackles this issue guided by the moderator, Barbara Fairfield, and each member discovers his or her own way of belonging in the household work.

Friday, 4/20/12   •   7:30 - 9:30 pm   •   PEP Office, Kensington, MD  •  (childcare available)   •  #S701

Saturday, June 2, 2012  •  "I Don't Want to Go!"

For all parents. For children ages 9 and up* with their parents.

Moderator: Emory Luce Baldwin, LCMFT, is both an experienced PEP leader and a marriage and family therapist. In her private practice she provides parent consultations and family therapy with adults, adolescents and children.

Sooner or later, most parents are faced with a child saying, "I don't want to go!" &#ndash; whether to the ballet class or swimming lesson or to Aunt Sue's for dinner. The parent likely feels flummoxed, boxed in between "making" an angry child get with the program and reneging on a commitment. Come to this session where the moderator will work with a family facing this situation, and learn from them how to win cooperation.

Saturday, 6/2/12   •   6:30 - 8:30 pm   •   PEP Office, Kensington, MD  •  (childcare available)   •  #S702

* The children in the demonstration family being counseled may be younger than age 9.

Open Forum Counseling FAQ

What is it?

Open forum counseling is a unique opportunity for continuing to learn about one's own behavior and the behavior of others, adults and children alike. Powerful learning occurs when an actual family, couple, teacher, individual or parent works together with an Adlerian moderator to educate the audience using real life challenges. Common dilemmas such as power struggles, allowances, homework, loss, or balancing home and work are explored. These sessions are for anyone interested in human and family dynamics.

What is accomplished through this unusual approach?

After interviewing the subjects and discussing the personal and group (family or classroom) dynamics, concrete and often highly creative suggestions are made. Every person can find parallels between the situation presented and his or her own experiences. Everyone learns, contributes to the understanding of others and leaves encouraged.

Who is it for?

Parents, teachers, counselors, children age 9 and up and anyone else interested in human and family dynamics.

Membership benefit?

Free for PEP Members. Click here for information on membership.

Family benefit?

Priceless! An on-going way to grow and improve interpersonal effectiveness.

Who gets to be counseled?

Call the PEP office if you or your family would like to volunteer as "co-educators." Suggestions for specific topics are welcome as well. Several times a year discussions provide the points of view of children or teenagers on a particular subject, such as "Making and Keeping Friends," or "Homework and Housework."
