PEP Parenting Preschoolers A

For Parents of Children Ages 2½ to 5


Understand your child's development and what it means to be an effective parent in today's world. Learn to set limits and solve behavior problems calmly and consistently; use positive discipline methods to address tantrums, power struggles, and other misbehavior; foster cooperation and responsibility; and rediscover the joy of parenting. Parenting Preschoolers A teaches:
  • Stages ofchildren's emotional development -- what to expect, and when
  • Firm and friendly ways to set and maintain boundaries
  • A toolkit of effective responses to problem behaviors
  • How to promote cooperation and responsibility through routines and order

Course length: Eight weeks

PEP Parenting Preschoolers B

For Parents of Children Ages 2½ to 5


For parents who have taken Parenting Preschoolers A, this course gives you a firmer footing on the path of developing a healthy relationship with your child. You will review basic concepts and learn new ones, with the support of experienced PEP leaders and like-minded class members. Topics include:
  • Deeper understanding of your options in responding to misbehaviors
  • Use of emotion coaching to help your child cope with strong feelings
  • Influences of birth order on parenting and sibling relationships
  • Guided practice in setting and upholding limits
  • Teaching young children life skills to promote self-sufficiency and cooperation
  • How to structure regular family meetings that help all members enjoy each other and solve problems together
Course length: Eight weeks

Prerequisite: PEP Parenting Preschoolers A
